All About
the Eastern Shore Art League
STATEMENT OF
PURPOSE
The Eastern Shore Art League of Virginia is a
501 c3 organization of individuals interested
in art - as professionals, part-timers, and
patrons. Our membership is open to and includes
painters in all media, photographers, sculptors,
carvers, potters and print-makers of both
professional and amateur status. Patrons with an
interest in promoting, supporting or working with
local arts and artists are encouraged to join the
Art League.
Incorporated in 1977 as a non-stock corporation
(ID 0178653-2), the Eastern Shore Art League of
Virginia is maintained by membership dues and
proceeds from other various events. The
league sponsors art exhibits, shows, and sales, as
well as artist workshops throughout the year.
Regular meetings are held the third Tuesday of
every month to conduct business, plan future
events, and share experiences and information. We
also offer educational programs at our meetings. We
publish a newsletter to update members on art
league activities and happenings in the world of
art on and beyond the Shore. We promote the
continuing study of art by the most talented High
School art students by holding a judged show of
their work with the support of the High School art
teachers. We support art related community
activities. The league gains exposure to the
community through our exhibitions, workshops and
publicity.

Paint
Outs
Art League Paint-Ins and Paint-Outs have become
a monthly tradition with the Art League (except for
the month of December). These events are announced
at the beginning of the month in the Eastern Shore
Art League Newsletter, at our meetings, and on the
web site.
Often the event takes place at an Art League
member's home. Sometimes we meet at other places
that offer suitable subjects for painting. We
usually meet at 10:00am and leave at 3:00pm. When
we meet at a home we bring a dish to share for
lunch. The host usually supplies the beverage. We
all bring along our paints/ paper/ canvas/easels
etc. The atmosphere is always informal. Some
painters are new to painting and others are quite
expert. We learn and share and have a lot of fun at
these events.
During the current year we met once at the
Barrier Island Center at Machipongo and painted
artifacts on display in the museum. We also met at
ESO in Belle Haven and made clay vessels which was
a new experience for most of us. Twice this year we
have met to paint in member's gardens. All Art
League members are encouraged to join in the
fun.
